# WillItWiFi

> Community-rated guide to in-flight Wi-Fi. Check whether a specific flight has working Wi-Fi, see ratings from real travellers, and read reviews of airlines, aircraft types, and routes.

WillItWiFi answers one question: will the flight someone is about to take have working internet?
The answer combines:
- Curated airline Wi-Fi policy database (~50 carriers)
- Aircraft type Wi-Fi installation rates (~50 types)
- Live aircraft assignment from a flight data API
- Community star ratings (1–5) with optional details (free vs paid, speed, provider, use cases)
- Transparent rule-based scoring with a community-driven blend when ratings exist

Every flight, airline, aircraft type, and route has its own URL.
All scores include a probability (0–100), confidence (Low/Medium/High), and reasoning.

## Per-flight pages

URL pattern: `/flight/<airline-iata><flight-number>--<YYYY-MM-DD>`
Example: `/flight/lh400--2026-04-25`

Each page returns:
- Wi-Fi probability (0–100%)
- Confidence (Low/Medium/High)
- Status label (Very likely / Likely / Uncertain / Probably no / No Wi-Fi)
- Aircraft type when known (live from flight data API)
- Airline policy
- Community star rating + recent reviews
- Things-to-know caveats (aircraft swaps, etc.)

## Per-airline pages

URL pattern: `/airlines/<iata>` (lowercase)
Example: `/airlines/lh`

Lists Wi-Fi policy, provider, fleet coverage, and links to recent flights.

## Methodology

- Algorithmic baseline: airline base score (0–100) modulated by aircraft type install rate (0–100), date proximity, and confirmed-vs-hint aircraft data.
- Community blend: when ≥3 ratings exist, community average (stars × 18 + 5) blends with algorithmic score using weighted average (0.45 → 0.85 weight as ratings grow).
- Confidence: function of policy clarity, aircraft confirmation, rating count, and date proximity.

## Privacy and data

- Anonymous-first community ratings — no account required.
- Optional name and country (auto-detected from IP for context only, never stored).
- No sale of user data, no tracking pixels beyond Vercel Analytics (privacy-respecting).
